Spelling and Wording

These conventions support visible client text in contexts, views, actions, and dashboards. Consistent wording helps users recognise the same business concept in different parts of the client. The ADITO client terminology provides the names for standard elements.

The English wording conventions follow The Chicago Manual of Style.

Capitalization

Chicago title case provides the convention for titles, subtitles, context names, button descriptions, drawer and section titles, and toggle labels.

Sentence case suits messages and explanatory text: capitalize the first word, proper names, and product names where needed, and otherwise use lower case. This keeps explanatory text distinct from navigation and control labels.

Singular and plural names

Singular names suit Global Menu groups and the entity title of their contexts. Plural names suit tabs in the Details area of a MainView.

Action titles

An infinitive makes an action title immediately clear, for example Write Email or Copy ticket. The title needs to identify the operation even without its icon.

When an action appears only as an icon, a suitable tooltip supplies the missing text. See actions and interaction.

Consistent wording

One term for one business concept makes the client easier to learn. Reviewing wording alongside surrounding navigation and actions helps maintain that consistency.
